The BYM Women's Retreat will not be in person this year. Although this comes as no surprise, we will greatly miss our annual winter opportunity to gather in fellowship. Friends Meeting of Washington, which was lined up to plan the 2021 retreat, has graciously agreed to plan 2022 with the hope that we will be able to meet in person by then. In lieu of a retreat in 2021, the Women's Retreat Working Group will offer an online meeting for worship and time for connection on Saturday, February 6th, from 10am-noon. Mark your calendars! The Zoom link will be sent out closer to the date. The Working Group consists of Inga Erickson, Dana Mitra, and Yuri Plowden.
The BYM Peace and Social Concerns Committee will offer a zoom workshop on Saturday, February 13, 10:00 am to noon on immigration and refugee issues including policies at the national and state levels.
The workshop will be led by PSC Committee member Bette Hoover (Sandy Spring Meeting, Maryland) who has substantial experience working in these areas. She will be joined by other Friends and colleagues working in this area as we review potential positive changes under consideration in our BYM states and nationally under the new administration.
• Immigration in the Biden administration - Marisa Leon Gomez, FCNL program staff on immigration and refugees will provide a perspective on what is possible.
• A Quaker Statement on Migration (a joint initiative by FCNL, AFSC, QUNO, Britain Yearly Meeting, Quaker Council for European Affairs)- Alicia McBride, FCNL’s Director of Quaker Leadership, discusses how it came to be and ways Friends can use this agreement.
• CASA de Maryland offers opportunities for allies of immigrants to get involved locally.
