We are led to hold the people of Myanmar in the Light as they suffer arrests, detentions, and killings in connection to a military coup five weeks ago.

Protesters and soldiers alike are trapped in conflict over power issues that have erupted into violence.

Members of the Yangon Friends Meeting and individuals connected to the American Friends Service Committee who work there are reporting extreme anxiety in the country.

Join Friends from around the nation on March 16 via Zoom.

Topic: Service to the people of Myanmar
6:00-7:00pm Pacific time
Email: rcambrose@ucdavis.edu for Zoom sign in information

The Meeting will begin with a brief introduction about the situation from John Henderson, clerk of Yangon Meeting, followed by a period of worship. John will point to issues of concern shared by Myanmar and the US.

The Zoom meeting will remain open after worship for more questions or discussion about the coup.

This meeting is being held on the Davis, CA Friends Zoom platform. We are grateful to the Ministry & Care committee of the Davis Meeting for supporting us in organizing this event.

Join this in-person, family friendly hike, shuffling through Shenandoah salamander territory. We will discuss the species found in the area, explore ideal habitats, talk about global & local threats, & explain how to ethically search for salamanders, & avoid disturbing or harming them when you enjoy nature. We will also retrieve traps that have been deployed in salamander habitat & hopefully have some local specimens to examine & identify.

The Appalachian Region & Blue Ridge Mountains are the global hotspot for salamanders, home to more species than anywhere else in the world. The cool, moist conditions found on the forest floor & rocky streams of this ancient mountain range provide ideal habitat for salamanders, with some species found nowhere else on Earth. Some species are found on only a few mountain peaks in the region. Check out this short movie from the Smithsonian.
