Friends World Committee for Consultation invites you to join Quakers around the world to celebrate the 6th annual World Quaker Day on Sunday 6 October. The theme, Sustainability: Planting Seeds of Renewal for the World We Love draws us into our shared experience of earth care and the spiritual imperative to sustain life on earth. It is a chance to celebrate our wonderful diversity of expression, whilst at the same time offering an important opportunity to learn about Friends’ experiences of climate breakdown in other parts of the world. You might consider sharing a sustainability story from your meeting or church with another group of Friends elsewhere in the world and beginning a dialogue. Please visit our website www.worldquakerday.org for resources, ideas on how to get involved and to share your story. We hope you will share your World Quaker Day experiences with FWCC. It can be very simple—a description, a poem, a few photos, or even a short video taken on a mobile phone. We will post it online for other Friends around the world to see. For instance, the Africa Section will be planting more than five thousand tree seedlings at the Farmers' Training Centre in Lugari Yearly Meeting, Kenya! Our vision is for Friends to have access to a montage of activity of all sorts via FWCC’s websites and the FWCC World Office Facebook page. Please email any items to us with WQD as the subject or post it on the Facebook page or Tweet us at @WorldQuakerDay #WQD2019.

C&O Canal (Harpers Ferry, WV to Washington, DC)

A number of Quakers throughout the tri-state area have the opportunity to participate with Friends in Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and DC who have been actively involved in witnessing the toxic threat of the Potomac Pipeline and the construction of a fossil fuel burning factory Rockwool. Many have participated in Hands Across the Potomac. there are also Friends at Shepherdstown Meeting in WV and at Goose Creek Meeting in VA who have been inspired by Tracy’s Walk in Denmark and have begun helping to coordinate the Solidarity Walk on the C&O Canal from Harpers Ferry to DC. We would welcome members of BYM and its Unity with Nature Committee to participate and publicize the C&O Solidarity Walk and our efforts to stop the construction of Rockwool. For more information, email paphillips321@gmail.com, text 703-786-8594, or see the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SolidarityCOWalk/. You can choose to walk any day along the way or the whole thing.

Please let Shelia Bach know if you will be coming so that she will know how much food to make to feed hungry workers. Your pay is your lunch for all the work you do!
