Rockville Memorial Library (Rockville, MD)

The Maryland Alliance For Justice Reform is having an information session 6:30-8 pm, at the Rockville Memorial Library on Rockville Town Square to alert people in Montgomery County about legislation for the upcoming Maryland Assembly: the Maryland Pretrial Reinvestment Act for 2017. Pretrial detention rates for citizens arrested but still presumed innocent have increased substantially in Maryland. Over 6,000 Marylanders per year are "low risk" but must spend weeks in jail before trial simply due to poverty. MAJR has joined with interfaith and community leaders to advocate for changes of state law to reduce unnecessary pretrial detention while still preserving public safety. Learn how you and other voters can persuade our legislators to fix the unfairness of Maryland's pretrial - bail system.
