Weather permitting (i.e. no rain, thick clouds or dangerously high winds) come join us for an evening of Sky Watching with Kevin Bowles of the Morgan County (WV) Observatory and his telescope. Kevin is a font of wonderful information about the night sky and Cosmos ranging from ancient mythology and star stories to intergalactic collisions and black holes and he loves to share this information on these occasions. The skies this night will bring into view the moon which will be a thin crescent in the West after sunset. Along with Venus, it will set a couple hours later. Jupiter and its moons will be visible all night. Saturn and Mars will be rising in the east at sunset, clearing the haze an hour or so later. If conditions allow, we will also be able to see the double star Albireo in the constellation Cygnus the Swan; the globular cluster M13 in Hercules, and perhaps the Ring Nebula. A laser pointer tour of the constellations along with some of their mythology will fill out the program. So not only can you see some wonderful objects in the sky but you can learn a lot of entertaining lore from Kevin as well. Meet at the Niles Cabin. A home cooked dinner is available at 7:00 PM if you make a reservation with Sheila by July 12th (Thursday), ($10 for ages 7and up and $5 for children under 7). The program will begin at around 9:00 PM for which we are suggesting a $10 donation per person of $25 per family.
