No previous study is expected or required. We just look at a few verses and discuss them following the Friendly Bible Study method developed by Joanne and Larry Spears:
https://universalistfriends.org/resources/quaker-universalist-friendlies

…but it’s not required to read that either.

Friendly Bible Study approaches the Bible with respect to the Quaker practice of finding insight through experience, continuing revelation, and honestly talking about problems. Our sessions are convened by Eli Courtwright, and me, John Allder Stephens, members of Alexandria MM.

Over the past year, we have come together as a learning team, and our discussions have produced deep connections and rich, meaningful reflections about life! We welcome young Friends 12 and up; and their adults who are willing to make space for young Friends to develop their own understandings.

Please join Friends from other Maryland meetings on Zoom for Chesapeake Quarterly Meeting (CQM) on 2 / 27 / 22 at 10 a.m. (To socialize informally, Friends also are invited to Zoom in as early at 9:30 a.m.) Here is a link to attend on 2/27 !

The last scheduled CQM gathering was canceled early in the pandemic. We hope, with this Zoom gathering, to hear how the Spirit has prospered among Friends in the Quarter since then and to talk about hoped-for arrangements to resume in-person (or hybrid) gatherings in the future.

Also, we plan to welcome and hear from Friends who have coordinated Quaker Voice of Maryland (QVM) in their second Maryland General Assembly Session–now in progress. Because QVM’s constituency is larger than CQM, however, we also want to invite Friends from other Maryland meetings to join us on 2/27.

A proposed agenda is below in this email. We invite Friends to Zoom in ½ hour early to socialize in small (breakout) groups, if you’re able. Please let us know by reply email if you have suggestions to improve the agenda or if you (or your Meeting) would like to make an announcement. We strongly encourage emailing a written summary of such reports / announcements at least 10 days before 2/27! We’ll then email them out to the list a week ahead so we can come prepared and help our business move smoothly.

We look forward to seeing everyone at this CQM gathering!
