Lillie Carroll Jackson (1889-1975) was a steadfast freedom fighter working to eliminate Jim Crow segregation, locally and nationally. She led the Baltimore NAACP for thirty five years as they dismantled the discrimination laws and mores of this country.
Margaret Thomas Carey (1869-1945) came from a strong Quaker family with abolitionist roots. She was one of Lillie Carroll Jackson's staunch allies for civil rights.
Overlooking and overcoming the divides in their world, together, these two powerful women transcended racism to transform Baltimore.
